Obituary of Harold J. Marcano, Sr.
Harold J. Marcano, Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 14, 2023. Harold was born in Harlem, NY to George and Virginia (Woodson) Marcano on July 29, 1927. He grew up in Greenburgh, N Y and from an early age could be found playing baseball out on the sandlot. He enlisted in the army and served in WWII as an Army firefighter in Japan. He was honorably discharged on January 31, 1947. He held a job as an auto worker at General Motors for 33 years. He spent much of his time serving Calvary Baptist Church and his community in Warwick, NY. Service for his church included being a Trustee, Deacon, sound technician, builder and bus driver. For many years he served his community as a Little League coach for multiple levels. His many years of service to his community aided in his receipt of “The Man of the Year” award from General Motors.
Harold was a loving husband for 71 years to Frances Elizabeth Matthews, who grew up with him in Greenburgh, NY. He was the adored father of Jacqueline, Vivian, Joe, Murry, John, Robert, Timothy and the many foster children they raised. He was the loving father-in-law of Heydi and her husband Dave. He was the loving pop-pop of Jeffrey, Hayle, Nicholas, Kevin and Jenna and the great grandfather of Lorenzo.
A private viewing and a burial service will be held for the immediate family. Extended family and friends will be notified of a Celebration of Life service to be held in the summer.
