Robert J. Dunn of Billerica, age 88, passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones in the early morning of September 4th, 2023.
He was the beloved husband of Nancy L. Dunn, who predeceased him by seventeen months. Devoted father of Robert Dunn Jr, and wife Paula of Lancaster, NH. The late David Dunn and his wife Linda of Tewksbury, Ann Reed of Billerica, Amy Varrell and husband Matthew of Harvard.
Loving Grampy of Nicholas Varrell, Caitlin Dunn, Rusty Varrell, Haylee and Jenna Reed. He was the proud Great-Grampy to Colton.
Robert was the loving brother to Patty and the late George Burke, the late Michael Dunn and wife Linda, the late Beverly D’Angelo. And brother-in-law to Everett Dickey and wife Cheryl, the late George Prescott and wife Sissy.
Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Robert was born in Boston, MA. He served in the United States Navy as a First-Class Petty Officer Sonarman on the USS Johnston (DD-821). Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he graduated Northeastern University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was married to his beloved Nancy in 1956, subsequently enjoying 65 years of marriage. He experienced a long career at MACOM in Burlington, MA. Robert was an avid walker, often logging several miles a day, even in the final weeks of his life. His hobbies included gardening and canning, puzzles, summer times spent at the family cottage in Dexter, Maine, and watching game shows alongside his grand-dog, Darla. He spent the last few months of his life living with his daughter and son-in-law at Harvard Alpaca Ranch, enjoying time with his adopted alpacas, Sir Erik and Princess Ava.
He will be missed by all that had the honor of knowing him.
Funeral from the Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Rd., (Rt. 3A), Billerica, Friday, September 8, at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish in St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica, at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours, Thursday, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in Burns Funeral Home.
