Obituary of William J. Cameron

William “Bill” Joseph Cameron, age 77, a resident of Billerica for 50 years, passed away at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington, MA, on October 12, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children.

Bill was born on October 15,1945 and raised in Cambridge, MA. While at Rindge Technical High School, Bill was an accomplished runner and broke many school records as a member of the champion 4x400 relay team, starting a lifelong passion for track and field.  After graduating he served in the US Navy until an injury ended his career.

In 1965, Bill met Frances King, also of Cambridge, and enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Together they settled in Billerica in 1973 where they raised 2 children, Crystal and Corey. Bill was an active community member and integral with bringing the Hershey Track program to town and growing it to the largest attended local track meet in the country. He passed along his love of the sport to his son and other student athletes as an assistant coach at Billerica Memorial High School for many years.

He is predeceased by his parents William and Rita (Coleman) Cameron.

Along with his beloved wife of 57 years, Bill is survived by his daughter and son- in-law, Crystal (Cameron) and Robert Herrmann of Groton, MA, and his son and daughter-in-law, Corey and Jill (Daigneault) Cameron of Maynard, MA.  Proud “Papa” to Liam Herrmann and Max Herrmann.  His sister, Jean Cameron, extended family members and close friends and his beloved cat, Boots will miss him dearly.

Bill enjoyed music, especially the Oldies, Boston sports, reading and watching movies and spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandsons. Papa will be truly missed.
 

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 4:00-6:00pm at Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Road, Billerica, MA 01821. A memorial service will be held immediately at 6pm.  Burial will take place privately at Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
