Obituary of John W. Kelso
John Wilson Kelso, age 85, of Cambridge, died, surrounded by his family, Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Clancy) Kelso to whom he was married 62 years. John was born in Cambridge, son of the late William and Mary (McElroy) Kelso. He was the devoted father of John Kelso and his wife, Cindy, of Plymouth, Nancy Powers of Wakefield, James, "Jim" Kelso of Melrose, and Jeanne Rakoczy and her husband, John, of Charlotte, NC, and father-in-law to Elizabeth Kelso of Melrose and Paul Powers of Stoneham. John also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Johnny, and Sean Kelso, Krysten and her husband, Greg Holmes, Matthew and Michael Powers, Zachary, Brandon and Nicole Kelso and Ava Rakoczy. He was also the loving great grandfather of Melody Kelso, Conor Holmes and Fallon Kelso. He was the devoted brother of the late Albert Kelso, Helen Gallant, Mary Marchetti and Gertrude Alexander. John worked as an oil technician for DJ Cutter for many years. He was an avid runner, participating many Boston Marathons. He also enjoyed going to Foxwoods and playing cards with Joe Divico. But his most enjoyable moments were being around his family and friends. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, May 30, in the John C. Burns & Sons Funeral Home, 305 Broadway, Cambridge, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to veterans support charity of your choice.
