Obituary of Mary P. Keaney

Mary P. Keaney, age 97, died peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at her residence at Heatherwood Gracious Retirement Living of Tewksbury. She was born in Arlington MA on October 28, 1926, the daughter of the late John B. and Mary L. (Donnelly) Keaney. Mary’s family moved to Billerica in 1934 where she remained until her move to Tewksbury in 2014. She worked for 30 years as a teacher in several schools including the Ditson, the Vining, and the Dutile in the Billerica School system. Mary, who enjoyed gardening, took meticulous care of her home in Billerica with her sister Ellen. She was known for her passion for cooking, creating fond memories of Thanksgiving dinners for family. She was a member of the Middlesex Swimmer’s Club and the Women’s Club at St. Theresa Parish in Billerica where she was a faithful communicant. She enjoyed going on trips in her retirement with her sister Ellen, especially to Hampton Beach and Maine. Mary will be remembered by all whose lives she touched through her deeply religious faith. She is survived by her sister, Sr. Carole Louise Keaney, O.S.U. of NY, sister-in-law Marjorie Keaney, nieces, nephews, and their families whom she loved. She is predeceased by her sister Ellen Keaney, brothers Philip Keaney, Hugh Keaney, Francis Keaney, Monsignor James Keaney, Reverend John Keaney, sisters-in-law, Eleanor Keaney and Barbara Keaney, nephew Daniel Keaney and her niece Patricia Bergin. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ursuline Provincialate Development Office, 1338 North Ave., New Rochelle, NY 10804. Funeral mass will be held in St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa’s Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica, Saturday, August 31, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends invited, visiting prior to Mass at the Burns Funeral Home, from 9:00 to 10:15 AM. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chelmsford.
