Obituary of Laszlo A. Hir

Laszlo A. Hir passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, in Derry, New Hampshire at the age of 88. Born on March 13, 1936, in Hungary, he emigrated to the United States after escaping to Austria under threat during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.

Laszlo, affectionately known as Louie, was a devoted husband to his late wife, Mary M. (McGrath) Hir, and a loving father to Maria Cronan of North Dighton, MA, Joseph Hir of Marston Mills, MA, L. Stephan Hir of Hudson, NH, Lauren Bowe of Nashua, NH, and Katy Stanton of Medfield, MA. He cherished his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather to 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is survived by his brothers, Imre Hir, and his loving companion, Charlotte Vote and Jozsef G. Hir and his family from Budapest, Hungary.

Educated in Budapest, Laszlo served honorably in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in 1966. He had a distinguished career, managing several country clubs, serving as the Executive Chef and Manager at Raytheon Service Company in Burlington, MA, for 19 years, and owning a carpentry business.

A man of many interests, Laszlo was passionate about photography, gardening, woodworking, and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. He was an active member of St. Andrew's Parish in North Billerica, MA, and St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Derry, NH.

Services to honor Laszlo's life will be held at Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Rd., (Rt. 3A), Billerica, on Monday, October 14, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, October 15, at 10:00 a.m. In St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish in St. Andrew's Church, 45 Talbot Ave., North Billerica. Relatives and friends invited.
