Obituary of Roberto Santiago

Roberto Santiago, fondly known by all as Rube, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and dedicated community leader. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on January 19th at the age of 88. Born and raised in Puerto Rico to Maria Colon Fuentes and Juan Santiago. Roberto moved to Boston at the ripe age of 22, where he met the love of his life, Carmen, in a church, and they were married for almost 64 years. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised seven children: Carmen, Roberto Jr, Aidely, Hedy, and Humberto, and Rosemary and her husband, Oswaldo Acevedo, all from Chelsea, MA, and Marlyn and her husband Louis C. Rosa of Cambridge, MA. Throughout his life, Roberto cherished his family above all else. He took pride in instilling in them the importance of valuing love, compassion, and hard work. Roberto adored his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took great joy in watching them grow and thrive.

Throughout his career with the Cambridge Public School Department and the Latino community. He positively impacted the lives of countless families moving to Cambridge, MA. He mentored numerous individuals, helping them achieve their goals, and helped masses of students reach their full potential. His dedication to his work and commitment to his community set him apart as a true leader in his field. He was a pioneer in his own right.

His selflessness and generosity touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on the community he called home.  He will be forever missed.

Visiting hours will be held in the John C.Burns Funeral Home, 305 Broadway, Cambridge, Friday, January 24, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends invited. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Mary's Church, 134 Norfolk St., Cambridge, Saturday at 10:00 AM.
