Obituary of Helen Elizabeth Raum

Helen Elizabeth (Cushing) Raum March 9, 1930 - January 24, 2016 Helen Elizabeth (Cushing) Raum, was born in Rockland, MA, on March 9, 1930. Her father was Walter Davis Cushing and her mother was Helen Emma (Pierce) Cushing. She was a graduate of Rockland High School. In her younger years she worked in Boston for several insurance companies. First commuting to Rockland by bus and later moving to a Marlboro Street residence in Boston. She also traveled several times to Europe during this time of her life. Helen moved to Washington D.C. where she lived for 50+ years, recently moving back to Billerica, MA to be with her family. While in Washington she worked for the federal government as a clerk. She also held down several part-time jobs including working for many years at the Smithsonian Museum. She was an avid cat lover and often enjoyed taking care of cats for all her friends and neighbors. Helen loved taking short trips to Popeyes and other establishments in her diverse and upscale Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington D.C. Helen is survived by several nieces & nephews: Mary Helen(Cushing) Harris, Fred Pierce Cushing, Jr, Nancy (Cushing) Sparacio, David Cushing, Steven Cushing, and Chris Cushing, Susan (Vierra) Caro, Sarah L(Vierra) Musumeci, Maureen E(Vierra) Myers and Jim Vierra. She is also survived by many great nieces & nephews as well as her sister in-law Edna Cushing of Jay Vermont, the wife of her deceased brother Fred Dean Cushing. Her death was predeceased by her parents and by her brother Fred & her sister Marjorie Louise(Cushing) Vierra.
