Obituary of Marguerite A. Jordan
Marguerite (Peggy) A. Jordan, 86, graduated to glory on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the Blaire House of Tewksbury where she resided for the last 4 years.
Born in Hollis, Maine on February 26, 1937, she was the daughter of Winslow and Myrtle (Harmon) Whitten.
Her family moved to Portland, Maine where she met her future husband David Jordan at the age of three; David lived with his family two houses away. She attended Deering High School, graduating in 1955. She went on to attend Barrington College in Rhode Island. She Married David Jordan in September 1958 after he returned home from Korea. They ended up settling in Burlington, Massachusetts where they raised four children. After child number four, the home became too small for the family, so they moved to North Billerica in 1972. She dedicated her life to serving others and her local church. She taught Sunday School, was a leader in the Pioneer Girls' Program, and opened her home to neighborhood children for a Bible Club. She had Child Evangelism Fellowship come over and run a five day club in the backyard during the summer months. She also got involved in prison ministry becoming a pen pal to numerous prisoners.
After her husband retired, they spent summers at Sebago Lake in Maine where they had a summer home on Long Beach. She became a summer member of the Living Stone Community Church in Standish, Maine. She became a member of Bay State Baptist Church in Billerica in 2010.
She was an avid writer and encourager to many people for many years. Sending birthday, anniversary, and well wishes for family, friends, and those she met along the way. She was a huge supporter of Hallmark and the U.S. Postal Service! Her oven did not sit idle for any length of time as she was not only cooking and baking for her family, but for many others as well. Once the fall came, her oven went on and did not shut off until January. She had an upright freezer in the basement that was full of banana, date nut, and pumpkin bread that she gave out for the holiday season; she gave Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker, and Pillsbury a run for their money.
She was predeceased by her husband David in 2010, her youngest son Arthur Jordan in 1980, brother David Whitten in 2015, and brother Winslow Whitten Jr. in 2022. Peggy is survived by her three children, Patricia Reece of Tewksbury, David Jordan Jr. of N. Billerica, and Katherine Fontana of Middletown, CT; five grandchildren, Alan Reece and his wife Christina of Dracut, Crystal Reece of Tewksbury, Michelle Reece of Andover, Joseph Fontana of SC, and Christina Fontana of Middletown, CT; two great-grandchildren, Shane and Elias; brother Gordon Whitten and his wife Joy of Venice, FL; sister Ruth Griffin and her husband Alan of Spring Hill, FL; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl Whitten of Cocoa, FL and Nancy Whitten of Hudson, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
