Ursula Robbins Obituary

Ursula Robbins passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 7, 2024. At the youthful age of 83, she was surrounded by family who loved her dearly. Survived by her husband of 61 years, William J. Robbins, her daughter, Heidi Robbins, and her grandson, William M. Robbins. The daughter of the late Walter Friedrich Bauer and Emilie Berta Bauer Schohn. Granddaughter of the late Berta Schohn. Her son, Michael J. Robbins, prematurely passed away on January 4, 2016.

Ursula was originally from Mannheim, Germany. Born during the beginning of World War II. Despite the struggles of the war, she was still able to enjoy her childhood, playing in the rubble of the bombings. She was a tough little girl. In her youth, Ursula attended a 2-year business school for accounting. She studied English, typing, math, and shorthand. Following this, she trained as a butcher. Very skilled at her work, her family always had plenty of good cuts to go around. Ursula was a woman of many skills. After gaining employment at the U.S. Army base sewing patches into soldier’s uniforms, she met the love of her life, a young and rambunctious soldier named Bill. They had two ceremonies. One by the Army priest and the other on November 2, 1962, by a German priest, where they would start their 61-year long journey through life. They had their first child, Michael J. Robbins on December 21, 1963, and were transferred to a military base in Missouri a year later. Later moving to Somerville after Ursula’s family came over to be with her. Their second child, Heidi Robbins, was born January 30, 1968, and they decided to move to Billerica. On November 19, 1971, she officially became a U.S. citizen. Teaching herself to speak English by watching the soap opera “Another World” and being an avid reader. Ursula and her husband lived in their new home up until the day of her passing. A home filled with love, adventures, chaos, and plenty of life.

Ursula loved nature, whether that be going to the beach, the family campground, or simply reading a book in her garden. An animal lover, she had many pets over the years and always donated to animal rescue foundations. She took joy in crocheting and sold some of her work. Always having an amazing sense of humor and a warm heart that would always bring people closer to her, she will be dearly missed by her loved ones and all those that met her.            

Visiting hours will be held, Friday, January 12, at Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Rd., (Rt. 3A), Billerica from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish in St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica will be held on Saturday, January 13, at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Anyone that knew Ursula, or would like to support the family, is welcome to join.
