Obituary of Yvette C. Stack
Yvette Claire Stack, 77, of Billerica,Massachusetts passed away on Tuesday, January 14 in Burlington, Massachusetts after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to all, she was a warrior determined to make the most of life after her diagnosis in 2007.
Yvette was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Bill and Rita Stack on February 5, 1947. She was the first of six siblings. She went to high school in Scituate, Massachusetts and graduated in 1964. She went on to earn a degree in nursing from Northeastern University in 1967. She worked as a registered nurse in Boston, Massachusetts in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In the early 1980s, she worked as a registered nurse in Loudon, Tennessee. In 1983, she changed careers and worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural route carrier and then later as bulk mail clerk at Sisk Mailing in Stevensville, Maryland until retirement. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crafts, swimming, walking, and gardening in addition to puzzles and computer games. When her children were young, she volunteered for the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and her children’s schools. Yvette lived in several different states including Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland, and Arizona.
Yvette had an infectious personality, lively spirit, and a wild sense of humor. One always knew when she was in the room because of her boisterous laugh and cackling. She loved watching sports, especially her children and grandchildren. Her favorite professional team was the Washington Redskins, now known as the Commanders. She was passionate about tennis and attended the US Open many times. She enjoyed the company of many friends playing bingo, bunco, and any card game with her fellow community members after retirement. Her favorite destination was the beach with her family.
Yvette always wanted to help others. She often cared for friends after a death in the family: volunteering to make meals, keeping them company, or organizing their loved ones' possessions.
Yvette is survived by her daughter Sandy Wicker (Alan) of Kannapolis, North Carolina and her son Billy Macdonald (Kacy) of Billerica, Massachusetts. She is also survived by six cherished grandchildren: Ethan Wicker (Hailey), Owen Wicker (Emily), Alayna Wicker, Joshua Abel, Mackenzie Macdonald, and David Macdonald. In addition, she is survived by siblings Linda Stack (Bill), Bill Stack (Linda), Leo Stack (Susan), and Dianne Mullen (John) and by nieces and nephews Cheryl Mitchell, Patty Flores, Angie Schultz, Bobby Singleton, Derek Stack, Carol Meloy, and Kristen Deya. The immediate family held a private celebration of life with a turkey dinner accompanied by cranberry sauce made with real cranberries, one of her favorite meals. Memorial donations may be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at www.pulmonary fibrosis.org.
